KOREA:JEONJU

One of the cities I visited last summer was Jeonju. I went there because I wanted to visit the traditional 'hanok' houses you can find there. There are over 800 hanok houses. The rest of the city is quite industrialized but the hanok area is especially beautiful.

Hanoks are considered to be a part of nature, a living, growing thing made with huge stones, ochre beautiful pieces of wood and windows made of paper.
In the past, because of Clonfuncianism, the rooms of a hanok were divide with males and females sleeping in different parts of the house.
Each room is made from 'hanji' or Korean paper that allows air flow and holds heat, meaning that it is warmer in the iwnter and cooler in the summer.
The method used for heating the floors in winter is the 'ondol' allowing people to sleep on the floor.

In Jeonju, it has also been held an International Film Festival every year since 2000. It is focus on digital, independent and art films. When I was taking a walk around the city I found these amazing buildings which are a tribute to the Jeonju Film Festival.
